CNN Fact-Checker Says This Trump Ad May Be ‘Most Deceptive’ Of 2024 Election

CNN fact-checking reporter Daniel Dale on Tuesday broke down a new spot released by Donald Trump’s campaign that Dale said “might be the single most deceptive campaign ad I’ve seen all cycle.”

The video took aim at Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’ tax plan.

But it included “two just horrifically-edited quotes plus a made-up statistic,” Dale pointed out.

The start of the ad pointed to an August article in The New York Times which warned, “Harris is seeking to significantly raise taxes.”

Dale highlighted, however, that the full quote was actually, “Harris is seeking to significantly raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans and large corporations.”

“So those very important words edited out,” said Dale.

In another part of the ad, Harris was seen saying that “taxes are gonna have to go up.” But, as Dale noted, the full context of what Harris actually said in 2019 was that “state taxes are gonna have to go up for the richest Americans.”

The ad missed out the words “for the richest Americans,” said Dale.

Finally, the pro-Trump ad said Harris’ plan would raise family tax bills by $2,580. It cited the right-leaning Tax Foundation think tank. But the foundation told Dale, “I don’t know where that number comes from.”
