Thomas Tuchel has opened up on whether he’ll sing the English national anthem.
England have found their replacement for Gareth Southgate in the German, 51, who was presented to the media on Wednesday (16 October). And Tuchel was almost immediately poised with the question if he’ll sing the English national anthem.
The German admitted: “I understood from Mark that it is a personal preference. I haven’t made my decision yet, I have to be honest with you. Your anthem is very moving, I’ve experienced it a number of times at Wembley.

“I haven’t made my decision yet, I want to be honest with you. Your anthem is very moving, the English anthem is very moving. I’ve experienced several times at Wembley and even out with the players at an FA Cup final.
“It was very touching. No matter what decision I will make, and we have until March, I will always show my respect to my new role, the new country and a very moving anthem. As it’s a news object, I will take a little time for this decision.”

Lee Carsley, who has been keeping the hot seat warm for Tuchel, sparked outrage when he chose not to sing the national anthem – saying he made the decision because he was focused on the game ahead.
Carsley, who was born in Birmingham but played for Ireland, said back in September: “This is something that I always struggled with when I was playing for Ireland.
“The gap between your warm-up, your coming on to the pitch and the delay with the anthems. So it’s something that I have never done. I was always really focused on the game and my first actions of the game. I really found that in that period I was wary about my mind wandering off.
“I fully respect both anthems and understand how much they mean to both countries. It’s something I am really respectful of.”
