Pregnant girl and unborn child die after horror automobile crash with police automobile

A pregnant woman and her unborn baby have been killed. The mother-to-be collided with an unmarked Metropolitan Police car on the A20 in Eltham at around 6.15pm on Thursday.

The catastrophic incident saw emergency services including London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and London’s Air Ambulance rush to the scene, but despite their efforts, a 38-year-old woman, who was heavily pregnant, tragically lost her life along with her baby, confirmed by the Met Police.

Family members of the woman have been notified and are currently receiving support from officers trained for such sensitive situations. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has initiated an inquiry into the heartbreaking event.

Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, responsible for policing in Greenwich, expressed his deep condolences: “My heart goes out to the woman’s family and friends who have lost their loved ones in these tragic circumstances.”, reports the Mirror.

He assured that a thorough investigation is being conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct and stated: “An investigation into the circumstances of this collision is under way by the Independent Office for Police Conduct and we will assist with their enquiries in any way we can.”

Lawry also mentioned: “A road closure will remain at the scene today and I am grateful for the patience of the local motorists, who will need to use alternative routes.”

Following the incident, two police officers from the unmarked car were admitted to hospital but have since been released.
