David James booed by Liverpool followers after saving 11-year-old’s penalty – twice

Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James made sure to keep a clean sheet during the halftime entertainment at Anfield.

James played for the Reds from 1992 to 1999, earning 214 appearances for the club. His long record at Anfield now means he takes part in the halftime entertainment.

As Liverpool and Chelsea were having their half time team talks, a group of fans came onto the pitch to take penalties at the ex-England keeper.

James holds the record for most penalty saves in Premier League history, and when facing an 11-year-old yesterday, it seemed like he was trying to add to this achievement.

It is often the case that goalkeepers will go easy when young children take their penalties, often letting the ball roll in. However, James was not holding back.

David James saved both the boys shots in front of the Kop End

In front of the Kop End, James saved the boys first penalty, only for the young lad to be given a second chance. The ex-Liverpool goalie then saved the young fans shot once again.

Following his second shot, James turned to the supporters behind him sat in the Kop, only to receive some comedic boos directed at the experienced keeper.

Unfazed, James then took to social media: “So, half-time Standard Chartered penalty shootout at @LFC, the young lad has a chance to retake his penalty….. Today’s signed match shirts and last week’s @LiverpoolFCW signed match shirts are live to bid for!”

The young fan surely would have been cheered up afterwards, as Liverpool went on to beat Chelsea 2-1. A Mohamed Salah penalty and cool Curtis Jones finish were enough to cancel out Nicolas Jacksons equaliser.

This leaves Arne Slot’s team at the top of the Premier League table, one point above Manchester City and 4 points ahead of Arsenal.
