Major UK high street brand Millets has announced the closure of several stores. The long-standing brand, owned by JD Sports, has been a focal point of UK outdoor shopping for around 100 years.
However, it appears as if that could now be in jeopardy after several stores were seen putting up “closing down” signs – and introducing huge sales at the same time.
If follows on from the likes of Morphe, Ted Baker, TGI Fridays and more being eviscerated from our high streets for good.

According to several local news outlets, Millets stores in Newton Abbot – on Queen Street – Market Street in York, and the Market Place store in Burgess Hill are all closing down.
Final dates of closure have not been made public, but all three stores were seen with huge “30% off sale” and “closing down” signs in the window.
Millets was founded in Southampton in 1893 and specialises in outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment. It stocks well-known outdoor brands like Berghaus, The North Face, and Salomon.

According to York Press, the store on Market Street will change into a GO Express shop.
Lee Bagnall, CEO of JD Outdoors, said: “The current Millets store is located in a prime location on Market Street, an easily accessible and popular place for shoppers. We always aim to provide the best possible experience for our customers, so by converting this store to a GO Express, customers will be able to benefit from the GO Outdoors loyalty programme, which offers exclusive and more affordable prices for members.
“The newly converted store will open in early January, with the exact date yet to be confirmed. All staff from the existing Millets store will be offered roles in the new Go Express store.”
It has not been confirmed when the other shops will close or if they will reopen as a different shop within the JD Sports portfolio.
