Reports of two trains colliding on distant line in Wales

Emergency services have raced to a scene in mid Wales amid reports two trains have collided on a remote line.

All lines are currently closed between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth after two trains reportedly collided on the Cambrian line just outside Llanbrynmair.

Coastguard helicopters have been spotted above the incident site and appear to be lighting the way for responders on the scene.

Disruption is now expected until the end of the day as trains are cancelled or revised.

In a short statement issued on their website, Transport for Wales said: ‘Due to an emergency incident between Machynlleth and Caersws, rail replacement is in operation however we are unable to call at Caersws.’
