Rihanna’s beau ASAP Rocky desires to ’emulate Wrexham’ and purchase Tranmere Rovers

Rihanna’s beau is reportedly eyeing up League Two side Tranmere Rovers, hoping to replicate the success of Wrexham.

Hollywood star’s Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the Red Dragons in February 2021. They’ve since funded their ascent from the National League to League One and produced a hit documentary about the club.

Their triumph has sparked interest among other American celebs in English football. Ex-NFL star Tom Brady has invested in League One team Birmingham City.

Now, ASAP Rocky is keen to join the ranks, with Merseyside’s Tranmere Rovers in his sights. Currently sitting 16th in the fourth tier, Rovers have yet to win a major honour or play in the top-flight.

The Sun are reporting that ASAP Rocky is part of an investment group poised to buy the club. Celebrity lawyer Joe Tacopina is leading the takeover bid, aiming to secure an 80 percent stake in the club for £15million, reports the Mirror.

Rovers are presently owned by ex-FA chief executive Mark Palios, who gained a controlling interest in 2014. Rumours suggest a documentary about Tranmere could be commissioned if the takeover proceeds.

The rapper is reportedly ‘committed’ to the Rovers bid and plans to visit Prenton Park to watch a match. He might even bring along superstar girlfriend Rihanna.

Tranmere are on the hunt for fresh cash injections as they aim to kickstart their ambitious stadium development plans. Club chairman Mark Palios, speaking earlier in January, made it clear that additional financial backing is essential for the club’s future projects.

“The principal aim of the directors remains to ensure that the club is financially self sustainable and able to achieve on field success without being reliant on annual external investment,” he explained.

“The resilience of the club is strong, as can be seen by the financial results achieved, despite the headwinds of the inflationary environment in which we are currently forced to operate. We are broadly at a point where the club can break even while maintaining a competitive playing budget.”

“However, to be competitive in higher leagues we feel there is still more work to be done and to that end the club has been progressing key infrastructure projects. These projects include the expansion of the campus, and the potential for a new stadium as an integral part of the regeneration of the Wirral.”

“The club does not have the capital to complete these projects without external investment and, to that end, the directors are currently seeking investors who have the means and the appetite to take some or all of these projects forward.”
