Woman who works at Disney World defends ‘dressing like a stripper’

A British woman working at Disney World in Florida was accused of dressing like a ‘stripper’ after wearing skimpy shorts to work.

Jessie Lee, 21, from Louth in Lincolnshire, had been working across the Disney World Resorts in Florida over the summer as part of their cultural exchange programme.

But after sharing a video of her red Disney outfit on TikTok, Jessie says her clothing divided opinion with some calling it ‘inappropriate’ while others said she was ‘giving dads something to look at’.

Jessie, a recent graduate, defended them as ‘very on trend’ and says haters are simply ‘uneducated’.

Footage shows Jessie sporting a red crop top with a pair of gingham bloomers posing around the park in various locations.

The graduate of Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln said she dressed in assigned Disney uniform during shifts but on her days off created her own themed outfits to wear at the theme parks.

While Jessie admits the majority of users adored her ‘Snow White’ themed costume, others even went as far to state Jessie looked like she was dressed as a ‘stripper’.

Following the backlash, Jessie is now speaking out as she believes her ‘lightweight’ outfit was suitable to wear and that ‘uneducated’ critics simply don’t know what people wear to theme parks.

She also pointed out that it was 30-degree heat and she had seen others sport similar clothes while working at Disney through the summer.

Jessie said: ‘I was in Disney World all summer from June until August as I was working there.

‘I was working on Disney’s cultural exchange programme and I filmed vlogs every day.

‘I wore this outfit on my day off when we got free access to the park.

‘Because I worked there, I would see hundreds of people every day and what they were wearing at the parks so I felt I fit in well with what everyone was wearing.

‘I wore Disney Mickey ears and I wore these with every outfit. [With this outfit] I wore Snow White ones so I wanted to build a red themed outfit around these.

‘I wore a red high neck tight fitted cropped top and a small gingham pair of bloomers.

‘It was a very lightweight outfit as it was in the high 30s most days.

‘I ordered these shorts as I have seen other Disney influencers wearing these [in the park].

‘No one said anything to me in the park that day. I went into the park twice in that outfit and went into different parks in it and no member of staff battered an eyelid.

‘I was going into shops and rides and no one said anything about it or thought anything appropriately of it.

On the Disney World Resorts website it states guests must wear shirts and shoes at all times and clothing that is inappropriate. Jessie is within those rules

‘Since I’ve got home from working at Disney, I have been continuing to post videos from my trip. This video [of me in the outfit] was just in my drafts folder.

‘At first the reaction was that everyone loved the outfit but then I started to get a few comments saying my outfit wasn’t appropriate. I was in disbelief.

‘I would say these people are more uneducated to what people wear in the parks.

‘I think most of the people that are agreeing with me are people that have potentially been to Disney or are potentially younger and know this outfit is not revealing.’

On the Disney World Resorts website it states guests must wear shirts and shoes at all times and clothing that is inappropriate, such as clothing with objectionable language or graphics, excessively torn clothing, or clothing that drags on the ground, is not permitted.

Guests aged 14 and older are not permitted to wear costumes or masks, unless they are for medical purposes.

Cast Members have the discretion to enforce the dress code and may refuse entry or remove guests who are wearing inappropriate clothing.

Despite the backlash Jessie received on her Disney outfit, she says it has not put her off posting her daily fits online.

Jessie said: ‘It was an outfit in which it was a high neck top that was cropped but crop tops are very in fashion these days and everyone wears them.

‘It was not like I was in a formal setting. I was just having fun. No one even thinks twice about a crop top.

‘The shorts were short however they were not revealing and as short as most people wear in Florida heat. I have only ever got positive comments on my videos.

‘I just like to share what I have been wearing everyday so I was shocked [to receive these comments].

‘Someone just commented saying I acted like a stripper. Some people just like to be negative.

‘A lot of the comments are very positive. I did have one person ask if my shorts were an adult diaper which I found hilarious.

‘I find that hilarious because I know where people are coming from but these shorts were very fashionable this summer so maybe they just didn’t understand the vision.

‘For me, this was a very on trend outfit so this comment made me laugh.

‘This has not put me off posting online. It made me question if my outfits were inappropriate but I now know the answer is no.

‘If anything I want to post more to show what people wear in the parks and it is acceptable.

‘Wear what you want at your own discretion and you’ve got to be comfortable but you’re there to have fun.

‘You’re going on rides so you’ve got to be sensible but it’s up to your own discretion.’

After posting a video of her wearing her ‘Snow White’ themed outfit, the TikTok received more than 60,000 views and 1,200 likes.

While the majority of comments about Jessie’s clothes were positive, some users deemed her dress sense not acceptable to wear at Disney.

One user said: ‘Inappropriate for Disney.’

Another added: ‘Literally nothing wrong with this outfit, it’s cute. I’m a cast member and I’ve seen way more revealing [outfits] than this.’

A third commented: ‘That was inappropriate. You went to a family park with children and acted like a stripper in that video.’

A fourth said: ‘Gorgeous outfit. Gorgeous fit.’

A fifth said: ‘Is that a diaper?’

Another added: ‘Not inappropriate, gives dads something to look at.’
