A BBC legend’s son is following in his famous father’s footsteps with a brand new radio job.

Mark Wogan, 51, – the son of Sir Terry Wogan – has landed a new role at Virgin Radio UK.

The businessman and podcast host joked upon being given the new job: ‘I’m excited to once again embrace my status as the world’s oldest nepo baby.

‘It’s great to have the Wogan name back on the radio and I’m delighted to be on the air with Virgin Radio UK.’

Mark is the owner and operator of popular pizzeria Homeslice Pizza and has hosted the Spooning with Mark Wogan podcast.

The podcast involves him getting dinner with a celebrity guest at two of London’s top locations – The Groucho Club in Soho and The Mount Street Restaurant in Mayfair.

Stuart Davies, the content manager at Virgin Radio UK added of his new role: ‘Mark has many stories to tell and I’m sure our listeners will enjoy his wit, style and that suave voice inherited from his dad.’

Sir Terry Wogan – who died in 2016 – was a radio and television broadcaster who worked for the BBC in the UK for most of his career.

Between 1993 and his semi-retirement in December 2009, his BBC Radio 2 weekday breakfast programme Wake Up to Wogan regularly drew an estimated eight million listeners.

Last month in a heartbreaking post on Instagram, Mark confirmed that Sir Terry’s wife Lady Helen had died.

He shared a black and white image of his parents on the social media platform with the caption: ‘Lady Helen Wogan – 1936-2024.’

Lady Helen was married to the late broadcaster for more than 50 years before his death from cancer in January 2016.

The couple shared four children and five grandchildren together.

Their son Mark paid tribute to a ‘beautiful’ mother and grandmother as he announced his mother’s death.

He wrote: ‘Our beautiful Mum left us last night after a fantastic life. From a young Irish rose to Lady Wogan , she was the epitome of style and grace.

‘A Mother, Grandmother and Wife, with love and kindness at her core. A strength and a belief that saw her through many of life’s trials.

‘A sense of humour and a turn of phrase that would have you in fits of laughter.

‘A proper lady in every sense of the word. Her and Dad are hopefully sharing a vodka martini and hoping we don’t make too much of fuss. We love you Mum, now and forever.’

Celebrities shared their condolences as they led the tributes to Lady Helen in the comments section.

Jeremy Clarkson wrote: ‘Horrible when it happens. Thinking of you.’

Eamonn Holmes said: ‘Mark, so sorry to hear. What a woman and what a couple. My sincere condolences to you.’

And Ronan Keating added: ‘Sending love matey. God bless ya all.’

Lady Helen married Sir Terry in a local parish church in Rathmines, Dublin in April 1965.

The couple lived together in a house in Taplow, Buckinghamshire but they also had a second home in Gascony, southwestern France.
