Man, 55, charged with homicide of Anita Rose

A man has been charged with the murder of Anita Rose, who was found unconscious on a path whilst walking her dog three months ago.

Roy Barclay, 55, of no fixed abode, has been accused of killing the 57-year-old and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Ms Rose was found lying unconscious with serious head injuries in Brantham, Suffolk, on July 24.

She had left the house at 5am to take her springer spaniel Bruce for a walk and was discovered by a male cyclist at the sewage works and railway line off Rectory Lane at about 6.25am.

With her jacket taken, the deceased was found wearing only a bra on her top half, as well as leggings and trainers on her lower half, with Bruce’s lead wrapped around her leg, Suffolk Police said.

Ms Rose was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, with serious head and facial injuries, where she tragically died four days later.

On Monday, officers arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of murder and took him to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

A picture of Ms Rose, wearing her now missing pink zip-up waterproof Regatta jacket, was released by detectives at the start of the inquiry.

The force’s investigation has seen them take on forensic work, searches, house-to-house inquiries and CCTV analysis.

By August 8, officers had spoken to more than 630 people during the probe, taking around 90 statements.

Previously, there have been three arrests in connection with the inquiry – a man aged in his 20s and a 45-year-old man on suspicion of murder, and a 37-year-old woman on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

All three were subsequently released on bail.

The police confirmed that Ms Rose’s dog was not harmed.
