Kyle Walker’s pre-match meal deemed a ‘culinary crime’ and ‘offensive to Italy’

Kyle Walker’s pre-match has been branded a ‘culinary crime’ after he revealed he puts pesto in his spaghetti bolognese.

The Manchester City full-back’s interesting concoction has lead to fans joking he’s been ‘offending Italy’ with his pre-match meal of choice.

Earlier this year, the BBC announced Walker would be appearing on a podcast called ‘You’ll never beat Kyle Walker’, starring alongside former Love Island star turned presenter Chris Hughes.

Recently, Walker, Hughes and former Sheffield United midfielder Michael Brown got talking about pre-match meals, with the ex-Love Island star quizzing the two on their food of choice before a big game. And it was then that Walker revealed he puts pesto in his spaghetti bolognese, calling it a “game changer.”

“What’s on the menu? A typical Kyle Walker away day meal,” asked Hughes. Walker began: “So spaghetti bolognese with mushrooms, and then pesto. I like pesto in my…”

Clearly bemused, Hughes then interjected: “Pesto in bolognese?” to which Walker replied: “Try it. Game changer.” Hughes added: “A bit of Worcester sauce in there?”

“No, no,” said Walker. “I had lasagna every Friday night on away trips,” Brown said. “That’s Maguire,” Walker said. “Maguire loves that, he has like a salad and drowns it in vinegar.”

However, the new of Walker’s pre-match meal has not gone down well on social media. One fan replied to the news by writing on X: “Italy is screaming lmao.” A second said: “Pesto in Bolognese?! That is a culinary crime against Italian culture.”

And a third said: “He may as well have said ketchup.”
