Manchester United fans have been left bemused by reports of Erik ten Hag‘s starting side
United are in Istanbul on Thursday to take on the Turkish giants who are managed by former boss Jose Mourinho. A series of injuries along with the suspension of captain Bruno Fernandes has led to the bizarre lineup from Ten Hag.
And after Ten Hag named his starting side, fans of the Red Devils have been left confused about the role of Noussair Mazraoui. Some fans have suggested the former Bayern Munich full-back could be in the midfield, alternatively United could opt for a back five with Noussair Mazraoui as a wing-back.
The Morrocan moved to Old Trafford this summer and has hit the ground running with supporters impressed with his ability going forward. However, choosing him as the man to fill Fernandes’ boots seems odd given Dalot is United’s only other fit full-back.
Fans were quick to voice their own opinions online with one saying, “Ten Hag has lost the plot” and another adding “No way Mazraoui is playing in midfield.”

The Red Devils are hoping to secure their first win in the Europa League this season having scraped two draws in games against FC Twente and FC Porto. However, Fenerbahce won’t be an easy opponent, especially with Mourinho calling the shots.
They also have two former United players in their squad – Fred and Sofyan Amrabat – who will be able to provide useful insight into what Ten Hag might be planning.
Pressure has eased on the Dutchman following a win over Brentford at the weekend, but defeat tonight will leave them in a difficult position in Europe and could renew calls for him to go.
