Deadly Hurricane Oscar to hit Britain this weekend after killing six in Cuba

The remnants of Hurricane Oscar are set to lash the UK this weekend, Met Office warns. The hurricane, blamed for six tragic deaths in Cuba and leaving more than 1,000 homes destroyed, might have weakened but it still has enough power to cause havoc across the UK..

Met Office official Aidan McGivern warned: “It’s later Saturday and into Sunday when the weather system contains the remnants of tropical storm Oscar. This is the remnants of the tropical storm, not at all a tropical storm itself of course at this stage but it’s tropical origins mean that it’ll only adds to the uncertainty through the weekend in terms of the speeds of weather systems as they move through.”

“It also contains some additional moisture, so we could end up with quite a wet spell across western and more especially northwestern parts of the UK, so this weekend’s likely to be very mixed.”

The worst weather will hit on Sunday spells trouble in Cumbria and Lancashire, lashing more than 13mm of rain at the coast, reports the Express.

McGivern added: We’re going to see weather systems move in, not just one but a few from the west and those weather systems are likely to mount up the rainfall across western and northwestern parts of the country, especially over hills and so that’s definitely something we’ll be keeping an eye on here at the Met Office.”

No rain alerts are in force yet, but the Met Office boffins are monitoring it. Their forecast for next week also predicts heavy rain, stating: “High pressure will dominate through much of next week, bringing widely settled conditions but probably with a fair amount of low cloud, producing spots of rain or drizzle at times.

“There will also be an increased chance of frost and fog, which may be slow to clear in places. The far north/northwest may experience breezier conditions and some outbreaks of rain at times, and there may be a tendency for this to push a little farther south later in the week, potentially allowing some colder air to filter into parts of Scotland with perhaps some snow over high ground.

“Otherwise, high pressure will tend to dominate for much of the rest of this period across more southern, and perhaps central, areas, with a continuation of drier than average conditions likely.”

The Met Office has claimed that rain is the predominant cause of disruption, preventing Brits from getting to work punctually. This stems from research conducted after a wet October, severely affected by Storm Ashley which led to the cancellation of flights and trains the previous weekend.
