Jose Mourinho jokes he is prepared to affix ‘any English membership’ that ‘does not play in Europe’

Jose Mourinho has said he is ready to manage any club in England that doesn’t play in Europe.

The ex-manager of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea has continued to display his distaste for UEFA officials following his Fenerbahce’s sides draw to United in the Europa League.

Mourinho was sent off in that game as he raged at the officials when a penalty was not given to his team. He sarcastically called referee Clement Turpin “one of the best referees in the world.”

The Portuguese manager has had his fair share of experiences in European competitions. He has won two Champions League trophies, one Europa League and one Europa Conference League. But now, it seems, Mourinho is done with Europe.

He said post-match: “I think the best thing I have to do is when I leave Fenerbahce I got to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competitions.

“If any club in England from the bottom of the table needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go.

“I don’t want to say anything more about it. I want to speak about the game. We played absolutely fantastic against the team, in theory, from a superior level. We played fantastic.”

Mourinho has been very vocal about his feelings towards officials, especially in UEFA run competitions. His comments towards Anthony Taylor, the referee for the 2022/23 Europa League final in which Mourinho’s Roma lost on penalties, got him a four-match ban.

The result against United means the Turkish side are now unbeaten in their opening three Europa League games with one win and two draws. Had the penalty been given, it would likely have handed Fenerbahce the victory, but Mourinho says he is done now challenging decisions.

He said: “If I appeal, I will get a six-month ban. There is nothing to do since the Sevilla-Roma final. There is nothing to do. It is what it is.

“That’s why I say if the future is maybe better without European competitions. So, I don’t get upset. It is what it is.”
