Antony was spotted leaving Fenerbahce’s stadium on crutches after he was stretchered off the field towards the end of the game.
The Brazilian was brought to Turkey as a substitute for the Europa League clash which saw Jose Mourinho face his old club Manchester United. The game ended 1-1 with Christian Eriksen’s first half goal cancelled out by Youssef En-Nesyri in the 49th minute.
Antony was brought on in the 73rd minute and only lasted 16 minutes before being taken off on a stretcher by the physio team. He was pictured later on leaving the ground in crutches and a boot on his lower left leg. Under-fire Erik Ten Hag spoke on Antony’s injury after the game.
He said: “It’s really unlucky for him. I feel real compassion for him, when he worked so hard in training.
“His training performances are that good that he deserved to come on. When you have to come off so quickly, that is really sad to see. Hopefully, it’s not too bad, we have to wait 24 hours for what the assessment is.”
Antony’s appearance in Turkey was his fifth of the season. The winger has scored one goal so far, coming from United’s 7-0 victory over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup last month. He has yet to live up to his £82m price tag which Ten Hag splashed on to secure the Brazilian from Ajax. In his 87 overall appearances for United, he has bagged 12 goals and 5 assists.
This was United’s third draw in their first three games in the Europa League, leaving them 21st in the table. They haven’t won in Europe for over a year.
Man United face West Ham at the London Stadium this weekend. A win could see the Red Devils move up from their current 12th position into the top 10.
