New weather maps reveal a surge of warm air is set to bring summer-like temperatures this Halloween, dashing hopes for a traditional autumn season.
Since the official start of the new season on September 21, temperatures have rarely dipped below 15C due to persistent humidity, keeping parts of the UK unusually warm.
This trend looks set to continue with WXCharts predicting a temperature increase of up to 3C in less than a week. Even typically colder areas like remote parts of Scotland could see highs of up to 16C before a sharp drop to “much colder” conditions in November.
The charts indicate that London could experience temperatures of 18C on Wednesday, 30 October, while Northern England could see highs of 17C. In Elgin, Scotland, north of usually chilly Aberdeen, temperatures could reach 16C.

These Halloween highs follow another recent heatwave where some parts of the country saw temperatures rise back into the 20C range. Earlier this month, the Met Office predicted highs between 20C in “some spots”, adding that maximums of 22C were not “out of the question”.
The Met Office’s long-range forecast hints at a chilly end to October and start of November, suggesting the weather could turn “much colder” with snow potentially on the cards. However, it also leaves room for the current milder conditions to persist, reports the Mirror.
The forecast from October 30 to November 8 indicates: “The period is likely to be characterised by often quiet and settled weather, as an area of high pressure becomes the dominant feature of the weather.
“Some mist and fog is probable in the south at first, alongside rather cloudy conditions, whilst in the extreme north spells of stronger winds and rain could brush past giving a slightly more unsettled picture.
“Into the start of November, there is a chance the weather could (briefly) turn much colder/brighter, with a chance of snow showers in northern and eastern areas, but it’s equally possible these could stay clear of the UK, or the milder conditions could remain in place. Either way going forward it’s likely to stay mainly settled, with an increasing chance of more unsettled weather developing later in this period.”
