Family pay tribute to ‘widespread and inspirational’ private coach who died whereas paddleboarding in reservoir

The family of a personal trainer whose body was recovered from a reservoir in Cheshire have said he was ‘our world’ as they paid tribute to him.

Simon Daniels’ body was found by a police underwater search team at Dovestone Reservoir at 6.15pm on Wednesday after he reportedly got into difficulty in the water while paddleboarding last weekend. 

Now, Mr Daniel’s family have paid tribute to him.

‘Simon is our world, he’s funny, unpredictable and has a heart as big as an ocean,’ they said in a statement. 

‘His larger than life and crazy personality lit up every room and his love, kindness and inspiration touched so many people who he met.

Mr Daniels’ family have now paid tribute to him

‘Simon was a friend to everyone, nobody was a stranger in his eyes.

‘His passions were fitness and the gym and helping others to become the best version of themselves.’

His family said his heart was ‘pure’ and he was ‘unapologetically himself’.

‘Funny doesn’t cut it,’ they added.

‘He was hilarious. He had this power to bring everyone together. He just wanted everyone to be friends.

‘He loved life and even at the darkest of times he still managed to light up the room.

‘The community have also shown how much they loved Simon, church bells have rung in his memory along with fireworks. We had no idea how popular and inspirational he was in our local community.’

A woman was rescued before being treated for hypothermia and shock

A large initial search operation began at the reservoir on Sunday after reports that two people had got into difficulty in the water while paddleboarding. 

A woman was rescued before being treated for hypothermia and shock.  

Police, paramedics and fire crews responded to the incident which occurred at the beauty spot at around 2.30 pm that day.

Visitors had been told to avoid the area, which is located on the edge of Oldham and the Peak District National Park, while the searches were carried out.
