Gary Lineker names Man Utd ‘left-wing’ choice who INEOS ‘in all probability have not thought of’

Gary Lineker has suggested Manchester United go after Lee Carsley.

The Red Devils announced they had parted ways with Erik ten Hag on Monday morning after a last-minute defeat at the hands of West Ham over the weekend. And Lineker has now suggested the Red Devils turned their attention to the England U21 boss.

“I’m going to throw in a name here,” Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast. “I think it would be very interesting, he’s certainly a brilliant coach. A certain Lee Carsley – who they probably won’t think about.

“He’s a really imaginative coach, he plays attacking football. From what I heard from England players, they thought he was really good. Really interesting and thoughtful on the game.”

Carsley will lead England into the November international break before he drops back down to the U21s as Thomas Tuchel takes the Three Lions reins on January 1.

However, according to The Athletic, the Red Devils have already turned their attention to Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim.

United are willing to to pay Amorim’s €10million (£8.3m) release clause in his contract with the two clubs reportedly in talks to finalise a deal that would see Ruud van Nistelrooy take interim charge before Amorim arrives.

Amorim, who is currently at the helm of Sporting Lisbon, is one of Europe’s most-highly rated young managers. Liverpool looked at appointing him over the summer, after Jurgen Klopp’s departure, but ultimately handed Arne Slot the role.

West Ham also looked at the 39-year-old, with Amorim holding talks before later admitting it was a mistake. He has been linked with City in recent weeks after his friend Hugo Viana was appointed as their new Director of Football.
