Himesh Patel has admitted that having acne on EastEnders as a teenager felt like the ‘worst thing in the world’.
The British actor, 34, found fame on the soap opera aged just 16, playing Tamwar Masood from 2007 to 2016, when he was written out when he ran off with his girlfriend Nancy Carter.
Since then, the star has seen success with movies such as Yesterday, The Aeronauts and Tenet, as well as popular TV series Motherland.
Opening up to British GQ Hype on Monday, the actor lifted the lid on his stellar career so far, including the years it began on EastEnders.
He told the magazine: ‘I’ve been doing this since I was 16, When you’re a teenager and you have acne, it’s the worst thing in the world.

‘But then when you’ve got acne in front of millions of people every week in EastEnders, it’s a whole other thing.
‘It was rough. You just kind of feel defective because you’re surrounded by actors. Everyone gets spots, but I just felt the pressure.’
Himesh has just starred The Assessment, a sci-fi climate thriller which features Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen, as well as playing a character in satirical comedy television series The Franchise.
Back in 2019, EastEnders fans were left gobsmacked after spotting Himesh Patel in Don’t Look Up alongside Hollywood stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep.

Viewers took to social media to express their surprise after seeing the actor appear in Don’t Look Up, saying he has come a ‘long way’ since starring in EastEnders.

The film sees award-winning director Danny and screenwriter Richard Curtis team up for the very first time.
