A Donald Trump victory in the US election next week could mean a “major security risk” for America and the UK, an expert has claimed.
With the US set to go to voting booths on November 5, the electoral battle for the Land of the Free has commentators from around the world watching with bated breath. A recent poll published by ABC News shows Democrat candidate Kamala Harris has established a tiny 1% lead over her opposite number Trump, something that brought a shred of hope to some UK-based experts.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, Professor Anthony Glees expressed concern about how “Trump winning could be a worry for Brits and the US”, with a whole host of “dangerous” characters set to follow him into the White House.
“Last time round, [Trump] brought in some fairly smart, straight guys who on the whole we in the UK could have confidence in,” Glees said. “The new lot will be different.”
Glees highlighted SpaceX boss and Trump-ally Elon Musk as someone to keep an eye on. “With [Elon], if Trump wins, he will take an axe to the institutions of civic society and proper governance in the US,” he said. “He will ‘Twitterize’ central government – essentially do what he did to X.
“It’s dangerous for Brits if Trump wins – our security needs require us to be close to the US.” Glees warned about Trump’s inflammatory comments “about Ukraine” – the former president has often spoken about cutting aid to Zelenskyy’s country.
“Then, we’d have his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who has close ties with Netanyahu and the Israelis,” Glees added. “I fear if Trump wins, Netanyahu will be uncontrollable and the Middle East will be in total turmoil, I’ve no doubt about that. It could be a security catastrophe.”
It is clear the race to become the US Head of State is heating up – earlier this week at a Trump rally at Madison Square Gardens comedian Tony Hinchcliffe dubbed Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage”.
Rival presidential candidate Harris was also called “the devil” by Trump supporters, whom also wildly claimed she had begun her career as a prostitute.
