Major UK model to open 50 new shops subsequent yr as tide activates excessive avenue hell

A major high street health brand has confirmed it will open 50 new stores across the country. Bucking the closure trend – which has seen the high street decimated by the losses of names such as TGI Friday’s, Morphe, and several WHSmith and Tesco branches – Holland and Barrett has confirmed the mass openings will take place in 2025.

It comes after company bosses also confirmed the refit of hundreds of stores and opening of 25 new ones across 2024 had taken place. A list of the new stores being opened had not been made public, but it was confirmed that they would take place “on high streets across the country”.

They did, however, confirm that eight to 10 new concessions will open within Tesco stores “by Christmas ”.

Anthony Houghton, CEO, Holland & Barrett UK&I, said: “We aim to have easily accessible retail stores where customers want and need them, which is why we are investing heavily in our high street presence and our end-to-end customer experience.

“Refitting hundreds of stores and opening 35 brand new ones in a 365-day period is no mean feat, and that’s down to the expertise and amazing dedication of our colleagues across our business. And to think….we are only just getting started.”

And Nick Gerrard, Holland & Barrett property and format director, told The Grocer: “There are some undeniable facts, we want Holland & Barrett to be accessible. We’ve only got 19 standalone sites on retail parks, because generally the size of boxes available to us are too big.

“However, there’s partners in those retail parks, be that Tesco or Next or whoever, who actually have spare space and want to make their offer more interesting to the customers that shop with them.”
