The Met Office has forecasted a spooktacular “unseasonably mild” Halloween, with recent days seeing temperatures soar up to 7C above the average for this time of year.
Dressing up for an evening of trick or treating with family or friends is an annual festive tradition for many, but it’s no fun if the British weather doesn’t stay dry and mild – the hours spent perfecting the Halloween make-up could be ruined very quickly by a few drops of rain.
But fear not, as weather experts are predicting this Halloween will be nice and dry. Brits have been basking in balmy conditions more typical of early June than late October, and it looks like the warm spell is here to stay for the week’s festivities.

Tom Morgan from the Met Office remarked on the surprising warmth, saying: “It’s been pretty mild over the last few days, with temperatures as high at 19C in a few places, which is about 6C to 7C above seasonal average.”
He also noted that the mercury levels were not just peaking in isolated spots but were actually widespread, predicting the trend to continue for a bit longer. Morgan added: “The rest of the week will generally see temperatures in the mid-teens. So, if we look at Halloween, it will be unseasonably mild for trick-or-treating, and often quite cloudy and dry – both by day and by night.”

This comes despite earlier predictions by the Met Office of potential snow showers hitting northern and eastern parts of the UK this week. However, it seems the “vast majority” will continue to enjoy the mild and mostly dry conditions into next week, reports the Liverpool Echo.
“Next weekend will likely be a little bit colder, and I wouldn’t rule out some snow showers in the Shetlands and possibly in northern Scotland. But the cold weather will not become widespread. Not everyone will stay dry, but the bulk of the UK will have dry weather.”
On the Met Office website, the forecast for Merseyside on Thursday shows highs of 15c and lows of 11c. The site’s outlook from Wednesday to Friday is: “Mainly dry during this period. Variable amounts of cloud and occasional sunny intervals in places. Fog is possible where skies clear overnight, locally stubborn to clear. On the mild side.”
