A football wizard from the streets and a freak in the sheets, Diego Maradona was just as prolific a scorer off the pitch as he was on it.
Growing up in poverty in a shantytown on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, the pint-sized phenomenon rose to become the most iconic player on the planet, achieving immortality not just with his Hand of God that took Argentina to World Cup glory, but as an insatiable bonk machine that romped with some of the most beautiful and adventurous women in the world.
His bedroom antics are certainly as wild as anything he did once he crossed the white lines (and boy, did he enjoy his fair share of those) of a football pitch. And there’s an astonishing collection of amorous anecdotes that all add to the mystique of the man who captured the hearts of his nation and the Italian city of Naples when he fired unfancied Napoli to Serie A glory.
Today would have been Maradona’s 64th birthday, if not for his untimely death in November 2020. And what better way to mark the occasion than by remembering his sensational sexual exploits.
From kinky cop roleplay, public pool sex and two-way mirrors to a dalliance with one of football’s most famous WAGs, Maradona did it all. So sit back and enjoy – we know he certainly did.
‘Rampant’ sex with Wanda Nara
It’s claimed Maradona once slept with Wanda Nara, 37, the infamously on-again, off-again WAG of former Inter Milan, PSG and Argentina forward Mauro Icardi, now of Galatasaray. Their alleged night of passion happened in 2006, prior to Wanda’s relationships with both Icardi and fellow footballer Maxi Lopez.
Argentinian TV star Mirtha Legrand says she heard the pair going at it through the wall of her hotel room, and that they were so loud she couldn’t sleep. “They moved furniture,” Legrand claimed. “I don’t know what they were doing. This is the truth. I was an auditory witness to their rampant sexual encounter.”
Police roleplay
El Diego’s ex-partner Veronica Ojeda, who is the mother of his fifth child, Diego Junior, spilled the beans about their exotic sex life several years after their split. She said he used to ask her to dress up like a police woman and use (cough) excessive force in the bedroom.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Veronica described Maradona as “the perfect lover”, despite the fact she dated him when he was severely overweight, following more than a decade of post-career booze and partying. “I didn’t have sex for two years after him,” she added. “Nobody beats him.”
Public pool sex
Roleplay wasn’t enough for Diego and Veronica, who once bonked in a public swimming pool, surrounded by dozens of oblivious people. “It happened at a party in Colombia,” Veronica admitted. “I don’t know if anyone realised what was going on.”
It’s little wonder Veronica was so keen to get her rocks off wherever she could with the Napoli legend. She once rated him “10 out of 10” between the sheets, and “eight of 10” for oral sex. “There was real passion between us,” she said. We bet there was, Ronnie.
Two-way mirror bonking
When fooling around behind the back of his long-suffering wife Claudia, Maradona would often take mistresses to the luxury pad of his millionaire agent Guillermo Coppola. What he didn’t know is that Coppola, who was as notorious a playboy as his client, had secretly installed a two-way mirror opposite the sofa in the living room so he and/or Maradona’s pals could watch the footballer’s steamy sex sessions.
Diego’s mates would know when he’d be arriving at the apartment as they were the ones who had to arrange his illicit dates, according to the Sun, and didn’t hesitate to sneak in a few minutes beforehand for a bit of Big Brother-style voyeurism.
Mafia hook-ups
Shortly after arriving at Napoli in 1984 Maradona fell in with the Camorra, an Italian mafia-type organisation who were more than happy to take advantage of his off-field indulgences. They offered him protection, in a city where he was constantly mobbed by adoring fans, while pushing him deeper and deeper into the arms of the criminal underworld.
In 1991, he was sprung by Italian police after trying to order a couple of sex workers to his hotel room through his mafia connections. The phone call was tapped by authorities and later used as evidence to bring charges against him for cocaine possession and distribution. He was subsequently banned from football for 15 months.
