Ruben Amorim looks set to join Manchester United after Erik ten Hag was sacked.
Amorim, who has emerged as the leading candidate to replace the Dutchman at Old Trafford, has told Sporting he wants to move to United. And while Sporting believe he’s the next Red Devils boss, Sky Sports News have revealed why United’s announcement is delays.
Speaking on Sky Sports News Kaveh Solhekol said: “He’s got this 30 day notice period in this contract. So Sporting are well within their rights to say ‘you’re not going anywhere, your contract says you have to give us 30 days notice’.
“What is happening at the moment is United are having talks with Sporting about paying extra compensation to ensure that he can move straight away.
“Now that compensation is not just to get him to United immediately, it’s also to compensate Sporting for the fact Amorim wants to bring three coaches with him. The compensation being talked about is around €5million, thats what Sporting want…
“I think what Sporting are trying to do is defend their interest. They want to be respected too.”
Jaime Marta Soares, former chairman of Sporting’s General Assembly, has lambasted Amorim’s handling of the situation, predicting a backlash from the club’s fans. “[Ruben Amorim’s] attitude and personality seemed like one thing, but that fell apart from one moment to the next.
“His love, passion, and dedication to Sporting were just fantasy situations,” Soares told Radio Renascenca. “He was the one who created an environment with an entire Sporting fanatic nation around him, who adored and respected him. He shouldn’t have spat in the plate that gave him his soup.
“I’m a fan of Ruben Amorim, but there are things that shouldn’t be allowed. It was at Sporting that he made his name.”
