Ruud Van Nistelrooy insists he wants to be part of the new coaching set up under incoming Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim.
Caretaker boss Van Nistelrooy did his chances no harm after leading United to a thumping 5-2 win over Leicester City to reach the League Cup quarter finals. United are expected to appoint Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s successor ahead of the next international break.
Van Nistelrooy admits he is more than happy to keep the seat warm, while United finalise a deal for the Portuguese. And he would like the chance to work under Amorim when he eventually arrives at Old Trafford.
Van Nistelrooy said: “Of course, I came here as an assistant to help the club. Now in this role, I’m helping as long as needed. In the future in any capacity, I’m here to help the club further to build towards the future. That’s what I’m here for.
“I’m here to help and serve and give my everything for the club in any capacity with so many people here around me that want the best for the club – and that will never change.”
Van Nistelrooy was only appointed Ten Hag’s No.2 in the summer – and admits he was sad to see his fellow Dutchman depart Old Trafford.
He added: “It’s mixed feelings. I’m sad to see Erik go because he was the one who got me here.
“Our first conversation was about his passion for Manchester United. He did everything for this club.
“I’m asked to help the club. That’s the reason I’m here, to help, to build. We are to stabilise and go out for training and get to work.”
Leicester boss Steve Cooper said: “I know this season is going to be a little bit like this. You do some really good things but then you have setbacks and mistakes.
“But we have to make sure we really focus on getting the good moments and good results. It’s always about looking forward.”
