Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham promote minority stake to US household who bought enterprise for £1.5bn

Hollywood pair Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have roped in new investors into Wrexham.

The A-listers have passed on a slice of the Red Dragons to New York-based Allyn family, known for their previous ownership of the US medical device giant Welch Allyn – which they sold for $2billlon (£1.54million) back in 2015.

Since cashing out, the Allyns haven’t been kicking their heels; they’ve plunged into investments across the board and even set up The Allyn Family Foundation to give Syracuse, New York, a facelift with projects like the Salt City Market.

In a glamorous reveal, Wrexham’s chiefs expressed that the cash injection coming through Red Dragon Ventures LLC, bankrolled by both the Allyns and Ryan and Rob, is all about boosting the club’s dreams of success. This isn’t just about football, though – it’s a move for prosperity in Wrexham as a whole.

On spouting about their new alliance, the dynamic duo shared: “Wrexham has earned the world’s attention and we are focused on bringing on board world-class partners to help with the next phase of our growth,” reports Wales Online.

They added: “We have been fortunate to get to know the Allyn family and we are blown away by their intelligence, kindness and commitment. They are exactly the type of partners we will need for this amazing endeavour.”

The manager and chief investment officer over at Team Allyn, Eric himself, chipped in: “For more than a century, our family has focused on building great companies, while also uplifting wonderful communities.

“Our decades-long efforts in the Syracuse region are similar to what Rob and Ryan have started in Wrexham. We view Red Dragon Ventures as a vehicle to invest in a world-class football club, and, importantly, in the welcoming community of Wrexham.”

Wrexham AFC chief executive Michael Williamson commented: “The investment by the Allyn family into Wrexham AFC is great news for both the club and the local community in Wrexham

“It will allow us to continue the development of the club while supporting the local community, which is something we truly believe in at this club.”
