Five people have been reportedly found dead in a room in Edo, Nigeria, after a woman allegedly poisoned the victims with a pepper soup.
Four boys and a girl were found in Afashio, Uzairue, after family members noticed they were yet to come out of the room and decided to check on them.
Two of the victims were brothers while the three others, including the female, were their friends, according to Nigeria’s Daily Post.
Sources say that the young woman allegedly laced the pepper soup with poison, and gave the food to her ex-boyfriend, whom she was seeking revenge on following the end of their relationship.
Unaware of the poisoned meal, the young man shared his food with four of his friends, leading to the death of all five individuals.
The woman was reportedly apprehended by the Nigerian army, who have taken her into custody for further investigation. Footage on social media allegedly shows the family discovering the deceased. Sources indicate generator fumes and food poisoning are suspected to be the possible causes of the death.
Moses Yamu, a press officer at the Edo State Police Command said: “The command is aware, but investigation to unravel the cause of death is ongoing.”
