Every few years, the US Presidential race is a drawn-out, tense affair – and the current one has been one of the most tumultuous races ever.
It’s made big headlines over and over again – no surprise considering the race is between a current VP who could be the US’ first ever woman president, and a man who is one of the most polarising candidates to ever run.
The current proceedings have been referred to as a ‘race to the bottom’ more than once, and with Donald Trump promising to make life much harder for many marginalised Americans on many occasions, it’s not difficult to see why.
To make matters even more nail-biting, the 2024 race is shaping up to be one of the closest ever in American history. Kamala Harris is holding out the tiniest of edges over Donald Trump, at least according to national surveys.
But of course, US politics is more complicated than that. Between the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and Donald Trump’s ability to whip his supporters up into a frenzy, it’s unlikely that the current polling data tells the whole story.
The 2024 race, like many races before, will come down to the complexities of the Electoral College. In basic terms, the Electoral College is a numerical value assigned to each US state according to how many senators and representatives it has, and makes up 270 votes. The winner of each state takes that state’s votes.
And with just a few days to go until polling day, we want to know how you’re feeling about it. Are you worried about another Donald Trump presidency? Take our poll and have your say in the comments below!
