An evening of celebrations quickly turned sour for one Los Angeles Dodgers fan.
Baseball fans had started to light up the LA sky with fireworks to celebrate their 2024 World Series win. The Dodgers battled back from 5-0 down in the fifth innings, against the New York Yankees, to win 7-6 and claim the World Championship.
And to celebrate the achievement, one fan took to streets to let off some fireworks. However, in a graphic video that has since gone viral on social media, he blows his entire hand off.
In the video, the man can be seen attempting to let off the firework before it explodes in his hand.
As the man stumbles to a nearby door, horrified onlookers can be heard yelling. His injuries soon become abundantly clear as blood drips onto the pavement – and one man, close to the injured individual, yells: “oh s***!”
Traumatised bystanders immediately come to his aid and one can be heard shouting: “His hand blew off, oh my goodness!” While another demands someone calls an ambulance.
Police confirmed the victim was a 25-year-old man and said first responders got to the scene at 2.30am on Thursday, according to reports by TMZ. Officials placed tourniquets on both of his arms and took him to a nearby hospital.
Medics described his condition as debilitating but said his injuries weren’t life-threatening.
Celebrations also turned violent in some small sections of LA, with police donning riot gear to control the unrest.
One video posted on social media appeared to show looters removing boxes of merchandise from a Nike store. Police said objects were thrown at officers.
Meanwhile, some photos shared on social media showed fires being set in the streets and people throwing fireworks.
