Man Utd followers applaud ‘world class’ Ruben Amorim banner as Sporting wave goodbye

Manchester United fans are glued to their TV sets for Manchester City.

However, it’s not to watch their bitter rivals, it’s to a catch glimpse of Ruben Amorim’s Sporting Lisbon before he heads to Old Trafford on November 11. It was Sporting’s final home game before Amorim packs his bags – and Sporting fans showed their appreciation to their outgoing boss.

Displaying the banner before kick-off, it read: “Thank you,” displaying an image of Amorim with the two league titles he won. One United fan shared: “The Amorim goodbye banner at Sporting. Wow!”

“Huge OBRIGADO (Thank you) banner from the Sporting Lisbon fans to Ruben Amorim who will take over as manager of @ManUtd in six days,” a second said. While a third posted: “That banner that Sporting fans have done for Ruben Amorim looks class!”

“Tifo tonight at the Alvalade, commemorating Amorim,” a fourth posted. And another added: “Some farewell for Amorim in Lisbon!”

The banner is in stark contrast to the one hung up in Lisbon earlier this week.

As reported by Record, some fans in Lisbon hung a banner outside a block of flats with a brutal message for Amorim. The banner in large print reads: “Amorim, this is no longer your home, thank you.”

It was after the first of three farewell matches for Amorim that started in the Portuguese top flight last Friday before Tuesday evening’s Champions League clash with City.

Amorim’s final match at the helm of the Portuguese giants comes away at Braga on Sunday.
