Ruben Amorim will pick the brains of Jose Mourinho before taking up his new job as Manchester United boss.
Amorim has agreed to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, following the Dutchman’s sacking last week. The Portuguese manager has signed a deal with United until 2027 and will start his new job next week.
And before travelling to England, Amorim intends to speak to former United boss Mourinho to get some advice on how to deal with the demands of the role. During his time at United, Mourinho once invited Amorim to complete an internship at Old Trafford when he was a budding coach.
Amorim said: “I haven’t spoken to Jose Mourinho yet, he’s full of games and so am I. But the impact he had on my career was the way he treated me, he showed me that you can win everything and be a different person than you think.
“He’s a special coach, who opened doors for us. Hopefully I’ll have time to speak to him.
“He’s very experienced. In terms of my (previous) experience at Manchester, it was the only club where I did an internship.
“But I never said ‘I want to come back as a coach’. But we’ll see what happens.”
Amorim, meanwhile, will have a crash course of English lessons – in a bid to make sure nothing gets lost in translation once he becomes United boss. He reckons it could take him three months to become completely fluent in English.
He added: “I will be simple in my communication. It won’t be as sophisticated, because I will be speaking in English. I don’t think there will be any issue with the players.
“I will be more basic at the start, when I talk to the press.”
