Brits are bracing themselves for a -2C Arctic chill with forecasters predicting the UK will be blanketed with snow within days.
After a deceivingly mild entry into the month, WXCharts weather maps are showing that a brisk freeze is about to sweep across all four nations, sending temperatures plunging below zero.
On Tuesday, November, 19 flakes are set to flurry over northern England, Wales, Northern Ireland and swathes of Scotland. For those further south, like on the south coast and southwest, prepare for a drenching as rain takes over.
Scottish towns Wick and Fort William could get the brunt of the storm, with 7cm of snow per hour predicted, according to the Express. Meanwhile, the rest of us will feel the chill sink in, with London temperatures barely clinging to 2-3C.
James Madden from Exacta Weather says it’s calm seas ahead till mid-month when he forecasts the mild climes will take a nosedive to more erratic and frosty weather conditions, reports the Mirror.
In his latest long-range weather report, he said: “There are currently no storms or wintry blasts expected across our shores as high pressure and settled weather continue to dominate, but we should still expect some big changes during the second half of the month, as the settled and mild to warm weather gives way to more unsettled, colder conditions and early wintry blasts.”
According to the forecast: “The weather wants to be kind and mild to warm until around mid-November on my projections, with the worst of conditions coming from some expected fog and developing frosts from cold overnight conditions at times during these types of developments.
“However, we should still expect those bigger changes to some further stormy and even wintry conditions at times during the second half of November, possibly a little earlier.”
A sombre day is expected on Tuesday, with overcast conditions prevailing across the UK. While some drizzle may occur in higher elevations, the majority of the country will remain dry, as per the Met Office.
The current spell of mild temperatures, accompanied by dry yet cloudy weather, is anticipated to persist into the weekend, courtesy of an approaching high-pressure system. Nevertheless, brief fog patches may make an appearance.
UK weather forecast
Tuesday: A predominantly dry day on Tuesday, albeit with persistent cloud cover, and the most favourable brightness confined to the leeward side of high ground. Any drizzle will be restricted to higher elevations.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: The proximity of high pressure will continue to yield a substantial amount of dry, albeit frequently cloudy, weather. Intermittent drizzle and occasional fog patches can be expected.
The brief, brighter interludes will be fairly pleasant.
