Aldi has confirmed plans to open 11 new stores across the UK in the run-up to Christmas. The supermarket chain will unveil new outlets in Sedgley in the West Midlands and Castle Douglas in Scotland this week, with Horsham in West Sussex and Muswell Hill in London set to follow in November.
Further expansion is planned with stores in Totton in Hampshire, Cribbs Causeway in Bristol and Pwllheli in Gwynedd also due to open before the festive season. In addition, more than 15 stores will be refurbished to enhance customer experience and introduce more sustainable features.
Aldi’s latest openings are part of its long-term goal to operate 1,500 stores across the UK, with an investment of £800million earmarked for expanding its UK presence this year alone.
Jonathan Neale, real estate managing director at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone. Our new store openings are a testament to our ongoing investment in the UK, and we’re thrilled to bring Aldi’s unbeatable prices to even more communities ahead of the festive season.”
Store Assistants at Aldi start on £12.40 per hour, rising to £13.65 per hour for those based in London. Furthermore, Aldi remains the only supermarket to offer paid breaks, which equates to more than £900 a year for the average store colleague, reports Wales Online.
