Leny Yoro has returned to full training at Manchester United for the first time in more than three months since suffering a broken metatarsal on pre-season tour.

The Frenchman was welcomed back by his teammates at Carrington on Wednesday morning as he was made to run through a corridor of players as they patted him on the head.

It’s understood that he is unlikely to be available for selection until after the international break when new manager Ruben Amorim will have started his new job as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

Yoro never made a competitive appearance under Ten Hag after becoming the Dutchman’s most expensive signing of the summer transfer window in a move from Lille worth up to £59m.

He has been out of action since he suffered the injury in United’s defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles in late July. Having made his debut against Rangers in Edinburgh, the 18-year-old lasted less than half an hour against the Gunners at the SoFi Stadium before he limped off.

Yoro stayed with the rest of the United party for the remainder of the tour in San Diego and South Carolina, although he needed a protective boot and crutches, and then had surgery on his return to England.

Yoro’s comeback is well-timed given Amorim’s appointment and an expectation that the Sporting Lisbon boss will want to implement his preferred 3-4-3 system at United. The gifted defender is seen as one of the United players who would be more suited to playing three at the back.

Yoro wasn’t the only one returning to training at Carrington ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie against PAOK Salonika at Old Trafford. Christian Eriksen, who has missed the last two games, was back on the grass with Antony, who was carried off with an ankle injury in the draw with Fenerbahce in Istanbul two weeks ago. Mason Mount also trained after rejoining the group this week as the midfielder works his way back from his latest injury lay-off
