Former Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele delivered a stark reality check on American sentiment when analyzing Donald Trump’s likely win in the 2024 election.
Steele, appearing on MSNBC during the network’s election night coverage, noted Trump’s more controlled tone during his victory declaration speech but warned there’ll soon be “a slide into something else.”
“Well, we’ve seen this movie a thousand times,” said MSNBC’s Jen Psaki.
“But here’s the thing, the America people are OK with that,” the fierce Trump critic continued. “So, what’s the counter measure to what we see Donald Trump do every day because clearly it’s not enough to say, ‘Democracy is at stake’ because the American people are like, ‘Yeah, I don’t really feel that. I don’t think that.’”
The challenge for Democrats will now be dealing with what’s to come from Trump and the likely deconstruction of the administrative state that he has promised, Steele added.
