Snow to batter UK -5C freeze later this month and forecaster says the place it should fall

Brrr, get ready for the big freeze!

Weather boffins are warning that a -5C icy blast could grip Brits tight by late November. After shaking off our brollies from a wet and relatively balmy spell, we’re next set for a sizzler of a surprise with temperatures in the high teens thanks to southeasterly wind and high pressure.

But don’t chuck your coats just yet – it’s all downhill to Chillsville come mid-November, weather maps reveal.

And if you’re in central Scotland, brace yourself for a shivering -5C nosedive by November 22; even hardy northwest England will be scrabbling for the thermals.

Even those in the milder south shouldn’t rule out a single digit shudder-fest.

It’s looking like snow clouds are gate-crashing from the Arctic on November 21 and will lurk over Blighty for days, reports the Mirror.

The forecast comes from WXCharts which paints a picture of a full-on purple people freezer, with Scotland, northern England, Midlands, southwest and Wales all turning into winter wonderlands.

It’s looking so nippy, even the Met Office has commented November 20 to December 4: “A general trend towards more unsettled conditions for all parts seems more likely than not through this period.”

Don’t say we didn’t warn ya!

The Met Office has forecasted a classic British weather divide, with the northwest set to face more unsettled conditions while the south and east enjoy drier spells. “Initially, there is likely to be a northwest-southeast split, with more unsettled conditions towards the northwest whilst drier conditions persist towards the south and east.

“However, as we head into December, a more unsettled and mobile picture will probably develop across all parts. Temperatures will probably be close to or above average overall, although some colder interludes are possible, especially in the north.”

But don’t get too comfy, as temperatures are expected to take a dive next week, with many areas facing cold nights where temperatures could hover in the low single digits from Monday.

The Met Office’s outlook for November 10-19 suggests a shift towards more changeable weather, saying: “A band of rain across western and northern parts of the UK will move steadily southeast during Sunday, the rain becoming increasingly light and patchy with time. Next week will see a good deal of dry, settled weather as high pressure builds across the UK.”

“However, after a reasonably bright start, increasingly cloudy conditions are likely to develop, with patchy drizzle possible at times and also some fog patches, these slow to clear. After a windy spell across northwestern parts on Sunday, winds will become mainly light, but breezier around the periphery of the UK, especially in the north later. Temperatures will be near or a little above average overall, although some cold nights are possible. From mid-month, possibly turning a little more unsettled, more particularly towards the northwest.”
