Donald Trump again insisted God “spared his life” during the horrific assassination attempt in the summer.
Speaking yesterday after being elected the 47th president of the United States, the Republican said his life was saved “for a reason” – so that he can “restore America to greatness”.
A gunman attempted to assassinate Trump, 78, during his speech at an outdoor campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July. The former president suffered an injury to his ear and his attacker was shot dead. In September, Trump survived what the FBI described as “an apparent assassination attempt,” in which a man with an AK-47 was fired upon by Secret Service agents at a golf club in Florida.
And so, speaking to supporters in Florida on Wednesday, the world leader added “many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason”.
He continued: “And that reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness, and now we are going to fulfil that mission together. We’re going to fulfil that mission.”

Trump became the second elected to non-consecutive terms as US president. The father of five is scheduled to take office as the 47th president on January 20, 2025, after winning five of the seven key battlegrounds across the US, including Pennsylvania where he was shot.
Trump was roughly six minutes into a speech in Butler in the state in July when he suddenly reached for the side of his face as gunfire rang out. He then crouched and ran for cover before being rushed off the stage surrounded by Secret Service agents. Blood could be seen on his face and ear.
The 78-year-old man was immediately taken from the rally in a motorcade while law enforcement cleared the area. The gunman, who is suspected to be a 20-year-old lone wolf identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot dead by law enforcement agents and his body was later seen on top of a nearby roof. Trump was treated at a hospital before being released and flying back to New Jersey.
