One of the country’s most sought-after tattooists set himself up in a London barber shop – and offered free inkings to fans.
Delphin Musquet has recently opened a new purpose-built studio in Homerton – but for one day only went back to his old stomping ground of Shoreditch with a fresh new idea.
In conjunction with Sailor Jerry’s he offered six lucky punters a chance to get a free tattoo of his own bespoke designs.
It was part of ‘Borderless’, a limited-edition streetwear capsule collection of coveted hoodies and joggers between Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and Sans Patrie.
Always intrepid, the Daily Star sent their man to get one of the of six stunning designs – including ships, hearts and swallows – all in Delphin’s unique fine line style. You can find out what happened below.
Sans Patrie founder Delphin said: “To me, tattoo studios and barber shops are the epitome of a borderless world, where people from all walks of life come together to connect, create, and share their stories. We’re excited to bring that sense of community and creativity to life with Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum.
“The ‘Borderless’ collaboration and Sailor Jerry x Sans Patrie Tattoo Drop is about more than just a collection or experience – it’s a celebration of breaking down barriers and embracing diversity.”

I met tattooist, chose a design and had it all done in 25 minutes
Tattoos are such a deeply personal thing, aren’t they?
It’s not the done thing to walk into a barbers, meet the artist for the first time, choose what you want and have it all done in 25 minutes.
But it’s not often Delphin Musquet, known for tattooing the likes of Alanis Morissette and actor Julian Morris, offes fans the chance to have one of his six bespoke designs. So sometimes you’ve got to be a little spontaneous.
Walking into Ruffians Barber Shop in trendy Shoreditch, fashion designer and tattoo artist Delphin was setting up.
Offering one of the six Sailor Jerry-inspired designs – think pirates and you won’t go far wrong – I pointed and we got started. First question is where on the body? I’d chosen the classic swallow and as I’d already had an eagle (I like birds it seems) I decided to have it on the same part of the body.
Exactly where? Well I needed a little guidance but after Delphin quite rightly pointed out “It’s your body man!”, I went for the inside of the bicep.
Expecting pain laying my arm on the bench, I felt none as he expertly went through the design and chatted about his philosophy,
He won’t ink anyone else’s designs (he doesn’t need to at this stage in his career) and choosing the design is always a collaborative exercise.
He won’t tattoo anyone’s private parts (which was good to know) and although he was a little coy at first did open up on some of the celeb inkings, including Canadian superstar Morissette.
By the time we’d finished chatting about his new shop in Hackney, I looked over and we were done. As simple as that. I was back at work 30 minutes later.
A colleague said to me ‘is that permanent?’ when they noticed. Well, it may take 40 years, but we’ll find out!
