Jake Paul’s former sparring partner Anthony Taylor has warned Mike Tyson about his opponent with the pair set to face off next week.
The highly anticipated bout between Paul and Tyson is almost here after the original July date was postponed due to the latter suffering a medical scare. Former heavyweight champion ‘Iron Mike’ is returning to action to face the Youtuber turned boxer which will be screened live on Netflix.
It will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Texas and despite being initially billed as an exhibition it will now be a sanctioned professional fight consisting of eight 2-minute rounds.
Paul last entered the ring in July defeating former MMA star Mike Perry via technical knockout and looks in much better shape than Tyson who is 31 years his senior. While the 58-year-old has experience on his side and will fancy his chances at winning, Paul’s former sparring partner Taylor has warned him not to underestimate ‘The Problem Child’.
“That’s not the Jake Paul I know anymore. He’s a different man now. I’m a different man now. Skill sets, mindsets, everything has changed. He’s not the same person as he was. Fighting Mike Tyson is going to be hard to watch in a sense because we don’t know what type of person he’s fighting.,” he said in an interview with Action Network.
“Obviously, Mike Tyson wasn’t the same when he lost to Lennox Lewis. He was clearly washed up. So we don’t understand what type of person he’s fighting. I can’t really say who’s going to win because Jake does good things in the ring especially for his age.
“But Mike Tyson’s a lot older. Mike Tyson’s like one of those guys. Like, we always knew somebody growing up who dad was just so mean, big, and buff. And we knew even if you were an adult, your dad would still kick your ass!
“It’s like one of those things we don’t know. And when it comes to Tyson, now it’s hard to say.” Tyson last fought professionally all the way back in 2005, so while his return is a massive deal, his condition is unpredictable.
