Liverpool icon John Barnes turns 61 this week and he was forced to apologise after sharing a pornographic image in an anti-Donald Trump post on social media.
Barnes posted a picture from his camera roll of an alleged quote made by Donald Trump’s mother about her son. Trump swept to victory in the recent general election defeating the democratic candidate and current vice-president Kamala Harris to ensure a second non-consecutive term in office.
The quote posted by Barnes might have been controversial, but it’s a pornographic picture which appears at the bottom of the screen that grabbed the headlines.
Fans were quick to point out the gaffe and urged him to crop the x-rated clip out, Barnes replied: “Don’t know how to do that… I’m afraid to press buttons on this phone.. I’m 56 yrs old, so happy to just be able to get one or 2 words out on twitter that people understand!!”
But the 56-year-old soon posted an apology, insisting the original image was sent onto him by a friend.
He said: “I have to apologise for any offence caused as I posted a Donald trump picture sent to me by a friend.. on the camera roll under was a video of pornography.. I wasn’t aware that it was there and apologise once again for any offence caused”.
Not all fans were offended by Barnes’ error, nonetheless, and leapt to his defence on X.
One wrote: “We’ve all done it”.
Another said: “Anyone offended should have a day off. Its funny John, relax. We all walk the tightrope.”
“No offense caused lad, its just a bit funny init” posted a third.
This fan quipped: “Would be more offended by a picture of Trump”.
While another joked: “You’ve got to hold or give but do it at the right time John”.
Amused fans were left intrigued as to where the original screenshot came from.
But when one asked the former England hero who was responsible, he replied: “Not a clue”.
