Ex-Rangers star Kyle Hutton arrested after girl dies following horror automotive crash

Kyle Hutton, who once turned out for Rangers, has been arrested after a woman died in a car crash.

Hutton, 33, was held by police on Saturday in connection with the death of pedestrian Victoria Cairns in Rutherglen, outside of Glasgow. Hutton is alleged to have been driving an orange Mitsubishi L200 pick-up vehicle when the accident occurred.

Victoria, 40, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, but she passed away on October 7 – four days after the crash.

Police said enquiries remain ongoing as they issued a fresh appeal for witnesses who may be able to provide details of how the crash occurred.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman at this difficult time. They have asked that their privacy is respected.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and I would again ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Hutton had been expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, a crown office spokesperson said: “The Procurator Fiscal received a report concerning a male aged 33 years in connection with an alleged incident on 02/11/2024.

“The accused was liberated from custody and did not appear in court. The case against the accused remains live and under consideration.”

Hutton, who currently plays for junior club Pollok, was earmarked as one of Scotland’s top talents when he broke into the Rangers first team. He remained at Ibrox when they dropped down the divisions – leaving in 2015 after making 72 appearances.
