A man was killed after he crossed a highway where people were seen chasing fly away money.
Kevin Elliot McCourt had pulled over on the I-95 in Providence, Rhode Island in the United States on Wednesday morning, November 6.
The Florida man crossed the southbound lanes onto the northbound lanes, where he was fatally struck by a Volkswagen SUV.

The collision took place in the same area where people and state troopers were seen scrambling after cash that flying around. State Troopers were seen grabbing at money and putting it into a bag.

Police have not yet confirmed if McCourt was killed while dashing about after cash. It’s also unknown where the cash came from. McCourt was struck at 5.41am 45 minutes before sunrise, which indicates he was most likely stuck in the dark.
Locals thought it was “crazy” money was flying around the highway. One Rhode Island resident said: “I think that’s crazy, is there more money to be found?
“It’s totally not worth getting out of your car to grab cash.”

Another local said that she doesn’t “blame anybody for picking up” free cash, because “the economy is tough right now”.
A third resident said: “It’s really sad to hear that someone got hit over all that. I hope whoever lost that money didn’t need it too much and it’s real sad for that guy’s family.”
Police said the Volkswagen driver hasn’t been charged with anything and that police investigations are ongoing.

It’s not the first time people have rushed at free cash. Last year rogue London cash machine allegedly handed out pounds to lucky passers-by and folk looking to bag some extra money.
Footage posted on X, shows a branch of NewtWest. Over the top of the video a voice, presumed to be that of the filmmaker, says “cash machine giving out double money on the high street, East Ham.”
The video was captioned with: “Cash machine on East Ham High Street has gone rogue giving customers double cash.”
