Brighton supporters taunted Pep Guardiola by telling the Spaniard he would be “sacked in the morning” after the Seagulls 2-1 win over Manchester City.
The defending Premier League champions went 1-0 up through Erling Haaland, but collapsed in the second half, conceding goals to Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley. While it was by no means a shock City lost to a Brighton side who moved up to fourth with the win over Guardiola and co, it was the former’s fourth consecutive defeat.
And following O’Riley’s winner, Brighton fans decided to tell Guardiola he would be getting “sacked in the morning”. The likelihood of Guardiola being sacked by City tomorrow is non-existent, but it is just a reminder of the rut the Premier League champions find themselves in.
Last week, Guardiola’s side were dumped out of the Carabao Cup after losing 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur. They then followed that up with a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth, before falling 4-1 to Sporting CP in the Champions League.
And now they have lost more ground on Premier League leaders Liverpool, who could open up a five point gap on City if they beat Aston Villa on Saturday night. The Reds currently sit top of the table having lost just once in the league this season, which came in a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest following the September international break.
