Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville was left red faced on Sunday afternoon after ‘going through puberty’ during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
The two sides faced off at Stamford Bridge in what was the final Premier League game before the November international break. The Gunners thought they had opened the scoring in the first half, but ex Chelsea star Kai Havertz was offside, meaning his goal against his former side was chalked off.
However, in the second half, the Gunners did find a breakthrough when Gabriel Martinelli fired home past Robert Sanchez. The Brazilian took a Martin Odegaard pass down with his left foot before unleashing a strike with his right foot past the Chelsea keeper who was beaten at his near post.
Commentating on the goal, Manchester United legend Neville began to give his take on Martinelli’s strike, only to be hit by his voice embarrassingly breaking while giving his analysis.
“Well he’s been the danger man,” said a squeaky Neville, before adding: “And my voice has gone! Martinelli has been the one Arsenal forward that I think has stood up today and it was a scruffy period in the game.”
However, that led to fans on social media claiming Neville had ‘decided to hit puberty’ while commentating on the Arsenal forward’s goal. One fan commented on social media: “Gary Neville deciding to hit puberty 25 seconds into the Arsenal goal is superb…”
A second said: “Gary Neville going through puberty on commentary.” A third wrote: “Gary Neville was so surprised we actually scored, he lost his voice.” And a fourth added: “Never mind the Martinelli goal…..the best news is that Gary Neville has lost his voice!”
In the end, the game finished 1-1, with Pedro Neto scoring an equaliser for Chelsea 10 minutes after Martinelli’s opener. And the result means that both Chelsea and Arsenal now sit nine points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool heading into the international break.
