Hornby on gravy practice as units fly off cabinets

Hornby is enjoying growing sales of its smaller-scale model railway sets after offloading its toy car business.

The model train maker, which is backed by Frasers Group and counts Mike Ashley as a consultant, is hoping increasing popularity of its smaller-scale sets will lead to a strong festive period.

Its TT:120 range, which is designed for table tops, includes a £305 replica of the Flying Scotsman as well as a £205 model of the Inter-City high speed locomotive.

Full steam ahead: Hornby is undergoing a turnaround plan in a bid to return to profit

A Hornby spokesman said: ‘It’s helping make the hobby more accessible to a wider audience, particularly those with limited space for a larger layout.’

The toy maker is undergoing a turnaround plan in a bid to return to profit. Last week it announced the sale of loss-making LCD Enterprises, which includes the Oxford Diecast model car brand, to EKD Enterprises for £1.38m.
