Brits brace for the battle of the thermostat as superb residence temperature is revealed

We can finally reveal exactly what temperature the thermostat should be at home this winter.

The officially ideal temp should be a cosy 19.5C, according to a poll of households ahead of the big winter chill. One in four say they regularly argue with their partner about the heating, while 18% get frustrated with other family members who tinker with the temperature.

But with rising energy costs, it is no surprise that a whopping 96% are constantly battling to turn the heating down to save cash. Two-thirds worry about how they are going to pay for heating this winter, according to the poll by insulation company LoftZone.

It also found that not putting the heating on until it is really cold is the most frequent family row across the country’s households.

This was followed by turning the heating down to save cash, with one in five arguing about the temperature being too high.

Two-thirds say they regularly change the thermostat – an average of 10 times a week – after someone has turned it up or down.

But the problem is wider than just the thermostat with more than half of folk thinking their property isn’t energy efficient and loses too much heat.

One in three have damp or mould in their home, while more than a quarter have drafty windows.

LoftZone’s CEO Dave Raval said “The energy crisis remains a pressing concern, with many Brits worried about heating their homes, or their families’ homes this winter.”

The study also found that 28% would like to improve the energy efficiency of their homes but 21% do not have the money.

One in four believe the Government should do more by building homes that are more energy efficient.
