Commentator Joe Rogan has delivered his scathing two cents on Mike Tyson’s points loss to Jake Paul, slamming it in three words.
Boxing icon Tyson found himself outclassed by YouTube whizz Jake Paul in a Texas match-up, following an insanely hyped lead-up that streamed globally on Netflix. Paul nabbed the win without seeming to break a sweat. The 58-year-old former champ’s stamina waned as the eight rounds unfolded, exposing his years as Paul seemingly pulled his jabs, stopping short of dropping the Baddest Man on the Planet with a KO.
Mike’s step back into the ring drew a storm of criticism, with some fans concerned for the veteran’s well-being against a younger and fresher Paul.
While others wrote it off as a moneymaking farce boxing heavyweights like Eddie Hearn even branded it “sad”.
Sceptic Joe Rogan voiced his pre-fight cynicism, questioning if the brawl would live up to its massive billing, reports the Mirror.
Before kickoff, he tweeted: “I’m getting ready to watch this Tyson vs Jake Paul fight like I’m watching someone cast a spell that I hope actually works. And I don’t really believe in magic. But I want to believe.”
Yet, after witnessing Paul’s straightforward triumph in what was a lacklustre scrap, Rogan retorted to his previous tweet succinctly stating: “Magic isn’t real.”
When quizzed about easing up in the final stages of the bout, Paul admitted: “Yeah definitely. Definitely a bit. I wanted to give the fans a show but I didn’t want to hurt someone that didn’t need to be hurt.”
Despite showing signs of fatigue as he nears his 60s, Tyson hinted at more time in the ring, dismissing retirement talks. “I don’t think so,” he replied when questioned if the Paul fight was his swansong.
“It depends on the situation.”
Tyson then teased a potential matchup with Logan Paul, saying: “I don’t think so, I don’t know, maybe I’ll fight his brother,” which prompted Logan to retort: “I’d kill you Mike”.
