Fallon Sherrock has argued that facing her boyfriend Cameron Menzies at the World Darts Championship would make awful TV.
The ‘Queen of the Palace’ became a trailblazer in 2019 as the first female player to win a match at the PDC World Championships and is set to make her fifth appearance at Ally Pally next month. The tournament will get underway on December 15 and there is a chance that the first round draw could pit Sherrock against Menzies, who reached the Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finals last week.
They have been dating since 2021, and a high-profile clash between the couple would draw plenty of attention. However, Sherrock fears that nerves would get the better of them if they were forced to face each other on the world stage next month.
Asked if Menzies would be her worst possible opponent, Sherrock told Online Darts: “100 per cent. I mean, can you imagine the arguments afterwards? Regardless of who wins. Before and after, it would just be so nervy.
“I don’t think it would be a good game for anyone to watch because we’d both be quite nervy and stuff. I know everyone wants to see it, but there’d be a lot of nerves in that one. I don’t think it’s a great thing that everyone wants to watch it. Put me up against any other player, I’ll be fine.”
The couple have already discussed the idea at home, with Sherrock adding: “Obviously, I’m not going to tell you the conversations that we have, but I always back myself, and he always backs himself. Hopefully, we never have to see it on TV.
“I don’t mind it on a floor game, but hopefully not on TV. We do practice [together], and even then, it gets a bit nervy. Can you imagine it on TV? You would see all the emotions, and I think even if I hit a 180, I’d probably celebrate a little bit!”
Sherrock missed out on a place at the Grand Slam of Darts after finishing third in the Women’s Order of Merit, with second-placed Noa-Lynn van Leuven making the cut. Her three season victories, though, were enough to push her into the top three and earn a place at the upcoming World Championships, where she will aim to go beyond the opening round for the first time in five years.
Menzies, 35, has rediscovered his form after a tough run of defeats – with Sherrock jokingly taking part of the credit after giving her boyfriend a pep talk. ‘Cammy’ won the Players Championship 29 event at the end of October and will enter the World Championship as the highest-ranked non-seeded player.
When asked about her influence on Menzies in September, Sherrock quipped: “I don’t know what I’ve done to him, I’ve created a monster, sorry guys! He’s playing absolutely phenomenal at the moment and I’ll just keep supporting him, and hopefully, he can just carry on.”
