Lee Carsley has backed England’s young guns to go on and conquer the world under Thomas Tuchel.
Carsley’s six games as the Three Lions caretaker boss saw him introduce a host of his Under-21 talents into the senior side.
He handed eight players their debuts, in the shape of Morgan Gibbs-White, Noni Madueke, Angel Gomes, Lewis Hall, Morgan Rogers, Curtis Jones, Tino Livramento and Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
And Carsley reckons England’s future is so bright he can see no reason why Tuchel, who was chosen by the FA with the sole intention of winning the 2026 World Cup, cannot land the biggest prize of all.
Asked if England could win the next World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States, Carsley said: “We are in a good position to do that.
“We have the talent to do it. The biggest thing about what you notice about these young players is their mentality. Any challenge you put in front of them is not too big. They can produce.

“We have seen that and the challenge is to get back in March. Thomas’s pool of players has increased, so we have left the squad in a fantastic position.”
Carsley finished his spell as interim boss on a high following a five goal thrashing of Republic of Ireland on Sunday night.
And he believes it is now just down to Tuchel, who has been handed an 18 month deal by the FA, finding the right formula for success.

“I have been lucky now to be at the last couple of World Cups,” added Carsley.
“It’s about the timing of the players being in form, physically and mentally, at the right time, while picking the right squad.
“We have got all of the tools. We just need to play them in the (right) order.”
