Bottomless Pigs in Blankets restaurant to serve world’s first 1ft-long vegan model

A dedicated Pigs in Blankets restaurant is set to serve the world’s first 1ft-long vegan version of the traditional Christmas treat.

Supermarket Aldi today announced its Bottomless Pigs in Blankets Restaurant will open on Friday November 29 to serve an extensive range of the festive dishes, including the groundbreaking meat-free option.

New research by the store predicts Brits will consume a staggering 668 million pigs in blankets this Christmas, averaging 11.2 per person.

With Londoners set to eat the most – an average of 13.7 each – Aldi is opening its restaurant in the capital to feed this demand.

Guests will have the chance to ‘pig out on six succulent courses of the festive favourite’, which include a Pig in Blanket Roulette, and Loaded Yorkshire Sliders, as well as the vegan version.

According to Aldi its Plant Menu Ultimate Footlong Vegan Pig in Blanket is ‘a super-sized treat made with taste approved Ultimate No Pork Sausage wrapped in smoky vegan bacon’ and will be served alongside ‘a bottomless supply of Aldi’s Plant Menu Ultimate Vegan Pigs in Blankets’.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “The humble pig in blanket is the King of the Christmas dinner spread – the irresistible combination of savoury sausage and crispy bacon creates a blend of flavours and textures that is hard to resist.

“Whether taking on a game of chance with our Pig in Blanket Roulette, or indulging in a Vegan Footlong Pig in Blanket, we can’t wait for shoppers to experience everything we have to offer this Christmas.”

Last year the supermarket sold more than 42 million pigs in blankets and predicts it will sell a record-breaking 46 million this year.

Bookings for Aldi’s Pigs in Blankets Restaurant are now open via Eventbrite, with spaces available for walk-ins. The restaurant will be open from Friday November 29 to Saturday November 30, 12.30pm to 8.30pm.
